Camping in South Africa? Better do it before 21 May 2011

Well, here we go again! Amongst all the hype around the world ending on 21 December 2012 a confident Mr Harold Camping predicts the rapture will happen on 21 May 2011.

For those not familiar with Harold Egbert Camping, he is a Christian radio broadcaster and president of Family Stations, Inc., a California-based religious broadcasting network, including more than 150 outlets in the United States as well as a Web site. Camping, 89, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he’d found: The world will end May 21, 2011. harold camping

However, this is not the first time that Harold has made predictions about Judgment Day. On Sept. 6, 1994, dozens of Camping’s believers gathered inside Alameda’s Veterans Memorial Building to await the return of Christ, an event Camping had promised for two years. His followers dressed children in their Sunday best and held Bibles open-faced toward the heavens.

But, as we now bear testimony, the world did not end. Camping responded that he might have made a mathematical error. He spent the next decade running new calculations, as well as overseeing a media company that has grown significantly in size and reach. His Family Radio Station extends from the United States to China and is growing. And it seems that South Africa is not immune to Camping’s prophecies and doctrines. Camping has raked up a considerable listenership and following here in South Africa.

In Camping’s latest publications, We are Almost There!, To God be the Glory, "No Man Knows The Day or The Hour?" and "Another Infallible Proof That God Gives That Assures The Rapture Will Occur May 21, 2011," he states that a number of Biblical passages point unquestionably to May 21, 2011 as "the first day of the Day of Judgment", and October 21, 2011 for the end of the world. Some people point to Camping as a "date-setter" following his own method of Biblical interpretation. Camping maintains that he follows the Bible’s method of Biblical interpretation.

Furthermore, Camping is not the only man to see truths in the Bible hidden in the numbers. In the late 1990s, a code-breaking phenomenon took off, led by "The Bible Code," written by former Washington Post journalist Michael Drosnin.

Drosnin developed a technique that revealed prophecies within the Bible’s text. A handful of biblical scholars have supported Drosnin’s theory, lending it an air of legitimacy. But just as many scholars have decried it as farce.

One of Drosnin’s more well-known findings is that a meteor will strike Earth in 2012, the same year some people believe the Mayan calendar marks the end of times, and the same year the "2012" action movie surmised the Earth’s crust will destabilize and kill most humans.

So as the sands of time run out in Mr Camping’s hourglass I can’t help but wonder if he will be available to take my call on 22nd May 2011.

    Hey John

With you all the way John, why would God told us that we will never know, and then you get a person that can calculate it…..There is no way of knowing,I only see a people that is trying to challenge God’s word,to prove Him wrong for some reason…God also talk about false prophets, and that we should beware of such people…

I only hope that this people will rethink their believes, and we will pray that they will come to their senses,it sad to waste energy to decode and decrypt the bible when they could rather use the time to spread the Word of our GOD ALMIGHTY….The other funny thing is that the people should go and take a look at when time started and when the international date line was inserted, lets say for instance that the end of the world is going to start in Australia and while we all can sit and watch how it happens there because it will still be the 20th by us,I am south african by the way,and then Alaska will be the last country…These people is making a mockery of GOD’S WORD…Come to your senses and go back to the basics…

Wow guys the time has come for the Lord to do His will & with no doubt May 21st is the day. No turning back- from it. If you quirry then thats a sign that you are content with your life on earth & whats happening in this world. Only the rejoicing are the ones who fear God and the destitute ones on the street corner. May 21 is judgment day whether you like it or not. Laugh at Harold Camping, we will see who will laugh last. I hope God will save me. Pray now that maybe He may do the same for you…

Well, it is 10h14 on Saturday 21 May 2011 in sunny South Africa and I am at work and will unfortunately have to be here tomorrow after church as well. maybe I’ll get really lucky and get swept up into the clouds but I fear that i will still be here working on 22 may 2011.

My God certainly doesn’t give me a day and time of my departure and I also read somewhere that according to Camping only 3 million people will be saved. A whole 3 million out of more than 6 billion??? My odds of being among the 3 million are extremely long. I imagine that Camping is only referring to those who listen to his broadcasts and send him lots of lovely money!

    Charlatan!

  12. Peter says:

Well Camping …. I suggest that you find another prank as this on is now laughing stock.

Its funny how some of the followers here in the nelspruit area sold there stuff, why would you sell your stuff if you not going to need money, they are also doubting camping, and why would the main follower in nelspruit buy property not long ago in the cape town area…My conclusion is that they were just ripping the people of,its all a scam…And this person I am referring to will only depart nelspruit and will think of some other scam in the cape town area…I am afraid that God will reckon with all of you scammers…NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT…never try to challenge God…I will like to get in touch with all the camping followers in the nelspruit area,we would like to talk to you and we would like to invite you guys to our church,we are after all just people,so come along…If any, contact me at carelhau@yahoo.com

really am confused, how these poeple find the secret after such a long time and these days poeple are spreading rumours and in order to understand what bible says read it on your own don’t always take what others said………….trully the end of the world is almost here but the exact day is unknown ………..what i dont understand is that if you changed your mind after 21may and cry to the lord…..repent….praying..
is the anyway that god can hear you?…no/yes and explain

  16. Carel H says:

    Hi m ndithande

God will hear you,me or anyone else,He hear and see everything…If you are praying and asking Him for forgiveness,He will forgive you if you really mean it.,if you know someone that were one of the camping followers tell them to pray to God for forgiveness,we are all just people that want to do what we want to do without consulting with the Lord…Before you decide to follow someone or before you decide to change work or anything, pray to God and consult with him first before you jump in and decide for yourself,He will tell you in His way what to do,and He will give you signs what to do in His way and His time…The rapture will definitely happen, that is for sure, but nobody can tell us when or where it is going to start, that is not for us to decide or to calculate,God has His own plans,we are just here to worship Him in His name so that we can live a content life with obstacles but we go through this obstacles with Him,and He will hold our hands through everything…We must just Believe in Him and accept the plans and path He set out for each and everyone of us,God created us according to His image,so then you can understand that all the emotions God gave us to experience, love, sadness etc.He also experience it,so the answer to your question again,He will forgive and He will love us if we believe and ask for forgiveness…and remember the life we got now is just temporary the life after this one is forever for the Believers in our Holy God…give it all you’ve got to stay on the right track, don’t follow people, follow God…Hope this is an answer to your question m ndithande…
